ESIP Federation
The Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) Federation brings together government agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, and businesses in an effort to make Earth Science information available to a broader community. The objective of the Federation is to evolve methods that make Earth science data easy to preserve, locate, access and use for all beneficial applications, including: research, education, commercial development, agriculture, land management, environmental monitoring, policy making, and many other applications.
This project received support from the Standing Committee on Community Engagement (SCCE).

The ESIP Federation has established a Digital Earth Cluster: To help make the ESIP Federation data accessible to the widest possible audiences (e.g. high school students, interdisciplinary researchers, general public) To help make Federation data "overlayable" with other data (including non-ESIP data) To disseminate new Digital Earth developments and opportunities to Federation members (e.g. Web Mapping Testbed 2.0 enhancements; funding opportunities) To develop Federation Digital Earth prototypes (possibly in conjunction with the NASA or Alpha Version Digital Earth prototypes).

Digital Earth
Digital Earth will be a virtual representation of our planet that enables a person to explore and interact with the vast amounts of natural and cultural information gathered about the Earth.
(Consensus definition adopted at the Second Interagency Digital Earth Workshop, held 1999 September 22-23 at University of Maryland.)

Special thanks to EPA Region III, Emergency Response Team and Signal Corporation (Regional GIS Contractor) and Coast Guard 5th Division: Activities Baltimore for their cooperation and guidance.
